چکیده

Abstract. Coseismic surface faulting is a significant source of hazard for critical plants and distributive infrastructure; it may occur either on the principal fault or as distributed rupture nearby faults. Hazard assessment based empirical relations which, in case normal faults, were derived almost 15 years ago using dataset US earthquakes. We collected additional histories worldwide, total 21 earthquakes, calculated conditional probability function distance from fault. found no clear dependency magnitude nor time occurrence but our data consistently show higher when compared with scaling currently adopted engineering practice. derive updated regressions that results are strongly conditioned by averaging earthquakes effectively generating at given those which did not generate faulting; thus, we introduce more conservative scenario can be included logic tree approach to consider full spectrum potential ruptures. Our applied framework probabilistic displacement hazard.

Tectonic Implications of Subcrustal, Normal Faulting Earthquakes in the Western Shikoku Region, Japan

Tectonic implications of subcrustal, normal faulting earthquakes in the western Shikoku region have been investigated in sorme detail, mainly based on the faulting mechanism of the Bungo channel earthquake of August 6, 1968 (M=6.6, h=45km) and its aftershocks. A synthetic study of the focal mechanism solution, spatial distribution of aftershocks, seismic waves observed in the near and far field...

A Model of Rupturing Lithospheric Faults with Reoccurring Earthquakes

An isothermal small-strain model based on the concept of generalized standard solids is devised, combining Maxwell-type rheology, damage, and perfect plasticity in the bulk. An interface analogue of the model is formulated at the lithospheric faults, exploiting concepts of adhesive contacts with interfacial plasticity. The model covers simultaneously features as rupturing of the fault zone acco...
